Feral Chef — operated by Jennifer Reevey, doing business as Feral Chef ("we", "us"), in the United States — turns photos of your ingredients into recipes. We keep data collection to the bare minimum. Here is exactly what happens.
01What We Process & Where It Goes
When you run a scan, the photo you capture is securely transmitted over an encrypted connection to our servers and then to a third-party cloud AI provider (OpenAI), which analyzes the image to identify food items and generate your recipes. We do not store, retain, sell, or monetize your photos — we use them only to produce your recipes, and never for advertising or to train AI models. OpenAI processes the image as our AI provider under its own API terms.
02Camera Access
The app requests camera permission solely so you can photograph ingredients. You decide when the camera is used, and you can revoke access anytime in your device settings.
03On-Device Data
Your saved recipes, scan history, free-scan usage, and preferences are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers, and deleting the app removes them.
04Subscriptions & Payments
Feral Chef offers optional in-app purchases (Feral Monthly and the Lifetime Scavenger Pass). All payments are processed by the Apple App Store — we never receive or store your credit card or payment details. To deliver and restore a purchase, an anonymous subscription/entitlement status may be processed by a third-party purchase-management provider. We do not link purchases to your name or contact information.
05What We Don't Do
- No account or sign-up required.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not show third-party ads or track you across other apps.
06Children
Feral Chef is not directed at children under 13.
07Maturity & Alcohol Notice
Feral Chef is rated 17+ / Mature. Because the application utilizes an AI machine-learning vision model to analyze physical objects captured by your camera, it may recognize and generate recipes containing or referencing alcoholic beverages based on your inputs. Feral Chef does not intentionally promote, market, or encourage underage drinking or alcohol misuse.
08Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of Feral Chef after an update means you accept the revised policy.
